Customs Clearance Fee

A service charge for customs entry preparation or representation; it is separate from government duties and taxes.

Professional definition

A commercial fee charged by a broker, forwarder or carrier for preparing or processing customs formalities. It is not the same as customs duty, VAT/GST, inspection charges or government disbursements.

Example

An importer pays the broker's clearance fee plus duty and import VAT assessed by customs.

Where it is used

Import and export declarations and brokerage quotations.

Separate service fees, carrier charges, destination charges and government taxes when comparing landed cost.
