Professional definition
The seller delivers export-cleared goods to the buyer's nominated carrier at the named place. The named place must be stated precisely and the parties should identify the Incoterms® 2020 version.
Example
A UK exporter clears and loads textiles onto the buyer's carrier at its Leeds warehouse.
Where it is used
Any mode. State the exact seller premises, terminal or handover point: FCA [place], Incoterms® 2020.
FCA responsibilities
Seller
- Pack and mark the goods
- Clear the goods for export
- Deliver to the carrier at the named place
- Provide delivery evidence; an on-board bill of lading may be agreed
Buyer
- Nominate the carrier
- Arrange main carriage and insurance
- Complete transit and import formalities
- Delivery point
- State the exact seller premises, terminal or handover point: FCA [place], Incoterms® 2020.
- Risk transfer
- Transfers on delivery to the carrier: when loaded on the buyer's vehicle at seller premises, or placed at the carrier's disposal elsewhere.
- Cost responsibilities
- Seller pays through delivery to the carrier and export clearance. Buyer pays main carriage, import and later costs.
- Insurance
- Neither party must insure. The buyer normally insures after carrier handover.
- Customs
- Export: Seller. Import: Buyer. Seller pays export duties/taxes; buyer pays import duty, import VAT and clearance charges.
Common mistakes and things to remember
Incoterms® allocate delivery, risk, cost and customs tasks; they do not determine title, payment, product compliance or every contract obligation.
